It’s Not About the Pancakes: It’s About the Pond!

After 28 years, the Friends of Puffer’s Pond are taking a well-deserved break from cooking, so there won’t be an annual Pancake Breakfast. But that’s OK, because it’s never really been about the pancakes: It’s about caring for Puffer’s Pond. And this special place still needs your support.
Big changes are in store this year for Puffer’s Pond, the Friends group tells us. The new bridge has been completed, and State street has become one-way to allow for parking, riding and walking. The seasonal efforts are upon us to make the pond area safe and clean for people and wildlife. The network of trails in the Mill River Conservation Area, the beach areas, and the trails around Puffer’s Pond all need cleaning and repair. As usual, under the supervision of the Amherst Conservation Department, caretakers will be hired for the summer and a corps of volunteers will be working on the trails.
The Town’s budget continues to be challenged for these types of services, and so the Friends are appealing to everyone who enjoys the pond and to all concerned citizens in the area. Kestrel Land Trust has partnered with the Town of Amherst to help create many conservation areas like Puffer’s Pond since 1970. Kestrel also partners with the Friends of Puffer’s Pond to manage and distribute the vital funds needed to maintain this unique and much-loved conservation area.
So please contribute to help preserve what we all agree is a valuable and much-loved community resource. Online tax-deductible donations can be made right here on Kestrel’s website:
1. Under “Purpose of Your Gift” click “apply my gift to a specific current campaign.”
2. Under “Select a Designation for Your Gift,” choose Friends of Puffers Pond.
If you prefer to mail a check, make it payable to: Kestrel Land Trust/Puffer’s Pond Fund and mail it to Kestrel Land Trust, PO Box 1016, Amherst, MA 01004.
All gifts go directly toward upkeep and preservation of the conservation area.
And, if you’re still craving pancakes, the Friends of Puffer’s Pond invites you to go out to eat at one of their supporting local restaurants on Saturday, June 8 between 8:30 – 11:30 am:
While you’re there, say hello to the Friends of Puffer’s Pond who will be tabling outside. But first, PLEASE DONATE to help Puffer’s Pond!
Thank you for your support!
