#GivingTuesday: Give the Benefits of Nature Close to Home for All

At a time when we’re all facing unprecedented challenges, many more people are finding solace in the outdoors, feeling fortunate to have natural areas close to home. Even in the Valley, however, easy access to nature is not a given, and spending time outdoors isn’t a regular part of life.

Did you know that more than 42,000 residents of Easthampton, Holyoke, Amherst, and Northampton don’t have a natural area or park within a 10-minute walk of their home? This fact, highlighted in research by the Trust for Public Land, represents a challenge for health and resilience, especially in times like these.

We all need nature and we all need access to nature, wherever we live.

The future of the Valley depends on it. If kids and their families don’t have a chance to fall in love with natural landscapes near their homes, they aren’t likely to care about saving them.

We need to invest in connecting today’s youth to the land: They are the future leaders and caretakers of this Valley we love.

It can be easy to assume that the forests, farms, and other open spaces that surround us will always be safe and secure. In fact, development pressure continues to rise, chipping away at cherished places throughout the Valley.

We must act now to create special places that connect people to nature – woodlands, wetlands, waterways, and trails – before they’re lost to sprawl.

Together we can do it — but only with your support.

Join us on December 1 for #GivingTuesday to ensure that everyone can have access to the outdoors. Together we can help our communities grow stronger, more equitable, and more sustainable.

Today we need hope as never before. Your gift, no matter the size, will make a difference. On #GivingTuesday help save the magic of nature, for generations to come.

The next 50 years begins now, with your generous support!

Our community has made possible all that we’ve accomplished together since 1970 – we couldn’t do it without you. Thank you!
