Volunteer Workshop: Constructing the “Kestrel Kiosk”

October 12, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

kiosk building

Do you like working with wood? Do you enjoy small-scale construction projects? Please attend this inaugural workshop for Kestrel volunteers interested in using their construction skills to build trail-related structures to welcome visitors to conserved lands!

This introductory workshop will focus on the steps of constructing Kestrel’s custom-designed kiosk. Guided by retired carpenters at workbuilder John Hondrogen, the kiosk designer, we will cut and prep the components for four identical Kestrel kiosks following John’s plans and specifications. On the second day, we will complete our prep work and install one kiosk on a nearby conservation area, so attendees will experience the full process of creating and placing a finished kiosk.

Our technique: Structures are assembled, then partially disassembled for transport to the worksite. This approach allows components to be created in home workshops for assembly elsewhere – which means interested volunteers may have future opportunities to contribute their construction skills by working at home!

This workshop will take in place in Pelham over two days during the weekend of October 12 & 13 from 10 am – 4 pm.

(Rain date: October 19 & 20)

Breakfast snacks, lunch, and beverages provided!
