Story Walk at Orchard Arboretum: Opening Celebration
May 4, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Calling all Earthlings, ages 3-8! What do you get when you cross reading a story while walking outside? A Story Walk! Come help us celebrate the opening of our 2019 Story Walk: a children’s book whose pages are set outdoors along a universally accessible path. The book this year is Earth Day Every Day, by Lisa Bullard and you’ll find it at the Orchard Arboretum Conservation Area in Amherst.
Though we observe Earth Day on April 22, Earth Day Every Day is about a young Earthling named Trina who learns how she can care for the earth during the rest of the year, too—at school, at home, and in her neighborhood.
Join us on Saturday May 4, from 2 pm – 4 pm for a guided reading of the Story Walk, and then enjoy an afternoon of refreshments, face-painting, books read aloud, and a raffle of signed children’s books by local authors and illustrators, including Jane Yolen. All for free!
Please join us for all or part of this family-friendly event. Registration is recommended. The rain date for the opening celebration event is Sunday, May 5 from 2 pm – 4 pm.
The Story Walk will remain installed at the conservation area throughout the summer of 2019. You are welcome to visit it at any time after May 4.
Kestrel is proud to host the Story Walk in partnership with the Friends of the Orchard Arboretum and the Applewood Retirement Community and the Town of Amherst. We are grateful Holyoke High School Dean Campus for the construction of the story walk signs. This program is supported in part by a grant from Amherst Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
