Red Fire Farm: Walking & Wagon Tour

July 24, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Red Fire Farm fields

Late July is high summer with warm days and nights. This is the time of year that many main season crops start to size up and ripen in local farm fields. Come join us on Saturday, July 24 to get a deep look at a diversified produce farm in Granby that has been conserved as Forever Farmland.

On this walking and wagon tour of Red Fire Farm, we will take a look at some of the vegetable fields and orchards, and enjoy a bit of  sampling along the way. Tasty highlights may include different varieties of blueberries, melons, husk cherries, early tree ripened peaches, beans, and the first field ripe tomatoes.

Farmers Ryan and Sarah Voiland, the owners of Red Fire Farm, will talk about crop rotation, organic soil fertility, new orchard plantings, pollinator habitat plantings, and research that is happening on the farm in conjunction with UMass and the U.S. Natural Resources Conservation Service. They will also share their experience with farmland conservation, as well as other goals and projects for their farm.

Space is limited to 20 participants and registration is required. This program is free, though donations are appreciated!
