DUE TO RAIN, THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

Kestrel’s Greenberg Family Conservation Area in Westhampton was generously donated by Rebecca and Carolyn Greenberg in honor of their parents, Stanley and Bernice Greenberg. Since Kestrel took active ownership of the property in 2017, much work has been done to improve access to this beautiful forest and stream for the public.

On Sunday, May 12 from 10:30 am until 1 pm, please join Kestrel in celebrating the official opening of the Greenberg Family Conservation Area with guided walks, music, and activities for kids. Come for the whole time or just for the activities that interest you! (Registration required for any or all activities.)

10:30 am – 11: 30 am: Scavenger Hunt for families with children age 4 and up. This forest adventure will guide you through clues as it teaches youngsters about key features located on the property. Search for flowers, trees, rocks, and signs of animal life as you journey to your final destination and claim your prize! The route is approximately one mile with one short uphill climb.people in woods

10:45 am – 12 pm: Come explore the trails on your own OR join us for one of three guided walks of varying lengths each beginning from the Country Automotive lot:

  • LONG HIKE: Begins at 10:45 am. Explore the entire trail system, including the lovely brook. Approximately 1.75 miles of varied terrain with moderate hill climbs.
  • MEDIUM HIKE: Begins at 11 am. Explore two of the loops highlighting the Tuliptrees and the stream access area. Just under 1 mile. Varied terrain.
  • SHORT: Begins at 11:30 am. For those who don’t have time or energy for longer walk, this route will guide you through the woods right over to the gathering circle in time for the concert. Only 1/4 mile. (NOTE: This is not a wheelchair-accessible property.)

12 Noon – 1 pm: Meet at our newly constructed performance platform and gathering area in the middle of the forest for the main event. First, Rebecca Greenberg will share a brief history of her family’s property. Then, enjoy a unique outdoor concert by the Renaissance Wind Band of the Five College Early Music Collegium. The 6 musicians will perform pieces by Italian composers from the late 1500s and early 1600s on historic instruments such as the shawThe Renaissance Wind Bandm, sackbut, cornetto and dulcian. The musicians will also share the stories behind these unique and beautiful instruments.

Light refreshments will be available throughout the morning.

Parking will be available at Country Automotive in Westhampton. There is no rain date for this event.

This event is free but registration is required. Donations are welcome during our Spring Membership Drive! A donation of any amount makes you a member for one year and enters you into a weekly drawing for great local prizes!
