Gallery Painting Demo With Artist Robert Masla

On Sunday, June 25th from 2 – 5 pm, artist Robert Masla will be at at the R. Michelson Galleries continuing the painting demonstration he will begin in the morning at the Paint Out on the Summit of Mt Holyoke.
Using Cobra Solvent Free Oils on Fredrix all media paint board, Masla will show how artists combine plein air and studio work. Painters and non-painters can attend all or any part of this free demo as Bob helps to enhance your understanding of the painting process, and shares techniques that offer the painter powerful advantages.
This in-gallery demonstration is a companion event to the Open Air Studio: A Paint Out to Celebrate the Mt. Holyoke Range and the Summit Hike for Art Lovers with Lewis Bryden earlier the same day. This demo program is free and no RSVP is required. Plus, this will be one of your last opportunities to view the special exhibit, “Views of the Mt. Holyoke Range” at the R. Michelson Galleries in Northampton!

Masla will demonstrate a variety of methods and techniques that take advantage of these revolutionary new painting medium and substrata. The best of watercolor painting and the best of oil painting – combined! He will talk briefly about some of the history of materials and techniques from the origins of painting in the west, both in oil and watercolor as well as the development of landscape painting and painting in plein air. Revealing methods and techniques that give the painter unparalleled access to freedom, speed and spontaneity to rapidly nail down a paintings composition and values, arguably two of the most important factors in the success of a painting.
Robert Masla is an award-winning artist whose work has appeared in various books and publications such as: The Artist and the American Landscape, Changing Prospects, The Artists Magazine, Art New England, PleinAir Today & Outdoor Painter. He also teaches and lectures about art with a wide range of audiences.
