Exploring Vernal Pools

April 4, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Wood frog and egg mass in vernal pool

This program has been canceled due to public health concerns.

Join us on this Learning with the Land program as we visit several vernal pools to look for indications of breeding by amphibians and invertebrates that are specially adapted to the unique conditions of these seasonal wetlands.

We’ll be guided by Molly Hale, an ecologist and naturalist who has worked for 20 years as a field biologist. Her work includes habitat assessments, plant and animal surveys, land management plans, forest inventories, assessment and monitoring of invasive species, and searches for rare animal and plant species. She has a special enthusiasm for vernal pools and has certified over 50, including the ones at Fitzgerald Lake Conservation Area in Northampton.
