Project: Well Away Farm, Pelham, MA
Conservation Goal: The Kestrel Trust is assisting the Town of Pelham's Conservation Commission to conserve a 68-acre homestead in Pelham. The property owned by Mr. Keyes connects with other conservation lands in the greater Quabbin region. The parcel is located on South Valley Road, and will expand the block of permanently protected conservation lands, including Harkness Road Conservation Area and Butter Hill Wildlife Sanctuary. The purchase will also secure public access for a hiking trail to connect these lands.
Fundraising Goal: The total cost of purchasing the conservation restriction to protect this land is $300,000. The Kestrel Trust has helped the Town of Pelham to apply for a state LAND grant for $199,000 and has pledged to raise the remaining $101,000 local match from foundations, neighbors and friends.
What You Can Do: Please consider making an investment of $1,000 or more to protect the ecological and historic integrity of one of Pelham's last remaining farms.
