ABOUT KESTREL

North Amherst Community Farm

In 2005, The Kestrel Trust served as the €scal agent and land trust advisor to the new group, North Amherst Community Farm (NACF). Kestrel is pleased to provide organizational assistance to motivated groups of residents like this, whose grassroots commitments make many local land protection projects possible. We are thrilled that NACF has made swift progress to protect 38 acres on Pine Street and organize itself as a new community supported agriculture (CSA) venture.

The majority of funding needed to protect this farm will come from the Town of Amherst Community Preservation Act Fund and the Massachusetts Agricultural Preservation Restriction (APR) program, along with an impressive number of private donations for more than $120,000. Approximately $35,000 of these contributions were made by more than 50 Kestrel members. Approximately 100 additional NACF contributors were welcomed as new members of The Kestrel Trust, as a bene€t for their support to conserve this farmland.

We wish NACF the best of luck as they move on to obtain their own 501(c)3 status as a non-pro€t organization to serve the community as a new CSA. For more information see www.nacfonline.org.
